Professional disc repair
|
After repeated use the playing surface on a disc can become
scuffed or scratched causing interruptions or total loss of
laser detection. Once this happens, cleaning kits are
ineffective. The play surface of the disc now needs
resurfacing to operate as intended. That's when you need the
professionals at
discz. |
In-store...
For the In-store service, simply bring your damaged discs into
us and we can assess them right away. In-store repairs cost
£2.99 per disc for a Full Repair, or £1.00 per disc for a
Tidy-Up.
Badly damaged discs: If you can easily feel the scratch
with your nail, these are classed as badly damaged, and need
to go on one of our main machines to achieve a perfect repair
and cost £2.99 per disc.
Lightly damaged discs: If you
cannot feel the scratches with your nail, then these go on a
different machine which only costs £1.00 per disc. This type
of repair we call a 'Tidy-Up' as is does not guarantee a
perfect repair, but will remove all light scratches. This
service can restore even a badly scratched disc well
enough for it to work again - although this is largely down to
chance and other factors like how deep the scratch is that
caused the disc to become faulty in the first instance. Many
people also use Tidy-Up to simply just 'Tidy-Up' a working
disc - great if you have a favourite disc that you preferred
looked a lot better!

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why won't my discs play any more? Or skip & jump?
The reason most discs either don't play, or skip, is because
the bottom (non label side) is either badly marked, or
scratched. The laser cannot read the information from the disc
accurately, so it either skips, gets stuck, or does not read
it at all.
2.
Which formats of disc can you repair?
PSOne,
Playstation 2, Nintendo Wii, XBOX, XBOX 360, Gamecube,
Dreamcast, PC, CD, DVD, HD-DVD, DVD-Audio, SA-CD, all
types of recordable CD and DVD, and all other retro CD
formats (Mega CD, 3DO, Saturn, Amiga CD32 etc).
3. How come your repairs cost
less than many other repair companies?
Unlike other CD repair companies, the machines we use
are fully automatic one stage machines, which do not
require the constant attention of an employee. The most
expensive factor in the cost of CD repair is not the
consumables but the labour charge. By eliminating the
need to dedicate an employee throughout the process our
repair charge becomes a fraction of our competitors.
The
benefits include total elimination of human error, and
vastly reduced costs to our customers.
4. What repair machines do you use and what is your
success rate on repairs?
We use the StarDisc (or StarBay as it is also known)
machines, which are simply the best disc repair machines
in the world (costing over £12,000 EACH and weighing
nearly a quarter of a tonne) - these amazing machines
were made to simply be the best repair machines in the
world, regardless of cost, and although not made anymore
(due to far cheaper machines becoming commonplace) this
is STILL the best repair machine in the world, and our
success rate on all repaired discs is over 99.9%...
probably the highest successful repair rate in the UK.
5. Is this like one of those cheap fixing machines from
some stores??
If you read the above question then you already are
aware the answer is a definate NO! There are many cheap
'home' CD Repair Machines available, and some small,
£600 machines that many shops use, but they are very
basic and are ineffective on many, many discs. They can
also leave your disc with a very poor finish.
discz
use heavyweight professional machines costing
over £12,000 each, are designed for
professionals, and are the best in the world at
what they do: Restore your discs to their 'as new'
condition. You will be amazed.
6. How do you do it?!?
Our disc repair machines are capable of repairing 5
discs at a time in a single stage, and use a pad and
polish which is so fine it leaves each repair identical
to a production disc.
It works by using tried and tested patented technology
to gently polish away a very small layer from the bottom
surface - just sufficient to remove the scratches from
the CD. It is then restored to a mirror finish. This
allows the light from the laser to pass cleanly through
the repaired disc to the data layer once again.
Once the process is complete, your disc is hand checked
before it is ready for packing and returning.
7. Can you fix ANY disc that won't play?
We rarely hear of one of our repaired discs not working.
Indeed, the only discs we cannot fix are those that have
been chipped, cracked, warped, or those with very bad
damage to the label side or data foil of the disc. On
many discs, a discs data is stored very close to the
label side and if the data is damaged there is no way of
recovering it. The good news is that we regularly
process discs with minor damage to the data layer which
play perfectly after our service. If in doubt send these
to us anyway and we will assess them for
free. If we don't process it, we wont charge you.
8. How many times can the same disc be repaired?
On average, a disc can be repaired around 10-20
times, increasing its lifespan immeasurably.
9. Is the repair procedure safe?
Totally. The machines we use are tried, tested and
patented.
10. Do you full repair Double Sided DVDs?
Not any more. As these discs are now rarely seen, we no
longer repair them as they require specific materials
and machines to repair. We do however, still offer the
Tidy-Up service for these discs.

Extra Information
There
are now many people claiming they can repair
your disc. Almost none of them are
professionals.
99% of these people will also be using vastly
inferior technology to us (our machines are
totally free from the 'swirls' and 'rounding
off' the edges of your disc that plague most
other peoples machines),
and indeed, they probably charge a lot more per disc than
we do, for an inferior repair.
After extensive research, we discovered the StarDisc (or
Starbay) to be the best disc repair machine in the world.
Specially customised in house by the
discz team, these 220KG heavyweights are capable of
repairing 5 discs at a time in a single stage, and use a
pad and polish which is so fine it leaves each repair
identical to a production disc. Not even the £40,000 DGM6
repair machine can match the finish our StarDiscs achieve.
Your discs are precious, and when in need of repair you
would want them repaired on the best compact disc repair
machines in the world by trained professionals. When you
send your damaged games, DVDs, music CDs etc to be
repaired by
discz, this is precisely what you get.

Flat On Flat
Disc Repair & Home Repair Kits |
discz
are well aware of the
growing number of 'CD home repair kits' available. These 'home' repair
kits are designed for only the most basic of repair however, and are
ineffective on many, many discs. You may also find you are putting
more scratches in your disc than you are taking out...Then there is
the fact you have spent money on these products, and are
wasting time and effort attempting to repair the disc yourself to find
it still doesn't work.... Wouldn't you prefer to have your disc
repaired to good as new condition by professionals using the best
disc repair machines in the world??
The process used by discz
uses the very latest advanced technology in machines which are
designed for high volume repair of even the most badly scratched
discs, and are for professional use only. After considerable research
we found the machines we use to be by far the
best in the world at disc repair. Nothing, and no other repair
service comes close.
Our machines are specially
customised in house, and allows us to produce perfect repairs
every-time (totally free from the swirls and rounding off the edge
of a disc that plaque most competitors machines).
During the repair procedure,
it is crucial that the disc lies totally flat throughout. Flat on Flat
technology with our machines is simply the best way to have
your discs repaired. We know that there are other companies out there
that would like you to believe that they have some 'special
technology' to repair compact discs, but that is just not the
truth. Compact Discs in any format ( Music, Game, DVD, CD-ROM, CD-Rs
or CD+Gs ) are manufactured flat to begin with.
Compact Discs, DVDs, and
most Games are made of Polycarbonite plastics (just like plastic
lenses in sunglasses) and are manufactured through a moulding process
that makes the disc perfectly flat. This perfectly flat surface allows
the laser beam to go straight up and reflect back off the Foil Layer
and retrieve the Digital Information that has been stamped into the
top side. A scratch, or finger print that blocks or breaks up the path
of the laser beam, will cause the disc to either skip, freeze up or
simply not load at all.
With the arrival of DVD,
XBOX 360, Nintendo Wii etc the digital information is now going right
to the outer edge of the disc (most music CDs do not use the whole
disc so do not go right to the very edge). This means that if your
repairs are not carried out by
discz, then there is a good
chance that other disc repair technologies will round the edges off
of your disc during their repair process....the laser beam will then
follow the curve created by their process and you could lose the last
track on those discs. Your discs are precious, and when in need of
repair you would want them repaired on the best compact disc repair
machines in the world by trained professionals. When you send your
damaged games, DVDs etc to be repaired by
discz, this is precisely
what you get.
About Top
Scratches
Let us begin by informing
you that on all CDs, the discs data is
not (as most people believe) on the playing (shiny) side of the
disc, but in-fact, on the opposite side just underneath the
label. This is important, as it means that the discs data is only
protected by the incredibly thin layer provided by the discs label
(DVDs and games discs data is more in the middle of the disc
and much better protected). A scratch on the label side can easily
destroy the vital data beneath it, and once gone, there is no way of
recovering it (these are called Top Scratches). It is therefore vital
to protect the label side of your discs. See our Products page for
ways to avoid Top Scratches and label side damage.
A scratch that occurs on the bottom (shiny) side of a disc
however, can easily stop your disc from playing correctly but can be
resurfaced and polished out. Top Scratches however, are permanent, and
if severe, can stop your disc from playing correctly even if the
bottom is perfect. If in doubt, send these to us anyway and we will
assess them for free. If we don't process a disc we believe is 'beyond
repair', we don't charge you!
Use the techniques below to discover which side of your disc is
scratched.
1) The Light Test:
Hold your disc 24 inches away form a 40 watt light bulb, label side
facing the bulb. If you see light coming through pin holes or
scratches, this disc is scratched on the label or top side.
2) The Reflection Test:
Hold your disc, bottom (or play side) up. While looking at the
scratches on the play side, tilt the disc slightly, back and forth,
and check each scratch for a reflection or double appearance.
Scratches on the bottom of the disc will have a reflection. Scratches
or wrinkles in the top side will appear as a single line.
